Oregon coast..
Trisha and I and a caramel dog (Nandi) are recharging our batteries in the beautiful coastal mountains after the tiring effort to clear out of Portland over the last couple of weeks. A few days of good food, good sleep and the hospitality of my folks and their 80 acres of privacy and nature should set us up for a steady charge to the tropic of cancer.
Trisha picked up some old darts which were stuck in the dartboard in the cabin, and started to get excited when she hit the board. When she hit a bull the girl inside her unleashed a smile to die for. I ran out to my car to get my black widows for her. She didn't want to stop throwing the darts, saying it was addicting. Hmmph.. just what I've been telling her all these years. I gave her a few (literally) pointers on her stance and release, and she was off and running. She hit at least 7 bulls over the next five minutes, and the darts flew with a nice trajectory and path. No wobbles, nice angle. She could be a player. I'm sure she'll be too busy to ever take the game up semi-seriously, but it would be nice to be able to play a game once in a while with her. She'd be one of the best looking dart players out there if she did take it up. Bottom line: it was great seeing her take pleasure in the challenge of placing a dart in a small area from 7' 9-3/4". She has a nice rear, too..
Also this last day or so I'm getting a chance to settle in Dad's new Mac mini. I've gotta tell all you sceptics out there, it's the real deal. On my suggestion, he ordered it from Apple with all wireless built-in (wifi airport, bluetooth), DVD/CD-R burner, 512 meg RAM, 80g HD, and of course it comes with 2 firewire ports, 2 USB 2.0 ports, digital video output (with an adaptor for standard VGA monitors) and finally, the awesome OSX version 10.3.7. The software that comes with this machine is all geared to the modern digital lifestyle. I can even edit Hi Def Video in iMovie HD, among all the other photo, video and sound stuff loaded on this little (tiny) computer. OSX just gets better the more I use it. I keep discovering things, ways around the system. Just the way it displays things make sense, and the graphics engine is leagues ahead of anything I've experienced on the Windows side. Websites, especially those that really take advantage of newer tweaks, really come to life. And besides Safari, which is almost as good as Firefox, Internet Explorer is also provided for more conservative types who think Microsoft must somehow be consulted in order for them to have a successful computing experience. It's all there folks. And I didn't read a single manual, consult a single help file, and from box to web-browsing it took maybe 3-4 minutes. My old existing MacAlly USB keyboard, mac hockeypuck mouse and 17" Apple studio monitor previously hooked up to my older B/w G3 tower all worked as promised. The only real problem is: Now I want to keep this machine....
Anyway, if all goes well we will be leaving early in the morning...
We'll see.
