On this particular day, the medical emergency (all too common at El Refugio) was a local American surfer who burned himself when a paint spray can exploded in his trailer on the beach. This guy didn't have (or didn't want to pay) enough money to see a doctor, so he arrived at El Refugio seeking medical assistance. Being the humanitarian that she is, Mariposa didn't turn the man down, and applied medication to his burn and gave him 14 days supply of antibiotics.
