So long, Boy

I have the sad duty to report that Sandy, on the right, died Wednesday. He was suffering from erlichiosis, and although he appeared to be happy and vital, he was riddled with skin eruptions which were uncontrollable with all the antibiotics he was filled with. His final call was made by Dr. Gabriel, who told Mariposa that it was unlikely that Sandy would be able to be cured, without great expense, and that it would require his total isolation from the rest of the refuge population of dogs for at least 30 day as he was observed, due to Gabriel's belief that his condition was communicable to the other dogs. Since Sandy loved playing with many of the puppies of the refuge, as well as our own Nandi (he was one of her favorite playmates,) which involved him putting his mouth on them and their mouths on him (and his many lesions) the risk was too much. As Dr. Gabriel put it, " better to sacrifice one, to save 10..."
