
After a bit of a climb, I circled back until I intersected a known boundary line, here shown clearly. I then followed this line west until I found the corner monument which marks the spot where four sections all come together. Each section is 640 acres, or square with one mile long sides (a square mile,) and is based on the US government surveys of townships and ranges. A township contains 36 sections, and is six miles on a side, or 36 square miles... little factoids for your amusement...
